Choose the background before converting

PNG can store transparent pixels; JPG cannot. This converter flattens those pixels against your selected background rather than leaving that decision hidden. White is the default, but you can choose another colour before processing.

Check partly transparent edges as well as completely empty areas. An anti-aliased logo or cut-out can look different against a new background. The output preview is the best place to inspect that transition before you use the image elsewhere.

JPG is useful for photos, but not every graphic

JPG often makes sense for photographic content where a smaller file is useful and transparency is unnecessary. Flat artwork, screenshots and fine text can show compression artefacts more easily. A format change is not automatically an improvement.

Start with a higher quality setting for small lettering and inspect the result. Keep the PNG when sharp text, transparent edges or exact graphic pixels matter more than file size. This tool converts the format; it does not claim to repair a low-quality source.

Compare real bytes instead of assuming a reduction

A JPG may be smaller or larger than its PNG source, depending on the content and selected quality. The result shows the original and output byte sizes. Use the optional file-size cap only if you have an actual limit to meet.

Conversion keeps the original pixel dimensions. If you need different dimensions use Resize photo, and if the framing needs adjustment use Crop photo. For a specific upload cap, the 200 KB preset provides a convenient starting point.

Questions, answered

Why does a transparent PNG need a background?

JPG does not support an alpha channel. Transparent and partly transparent pixels must be combined with a solid background colour.

Will JPG always be smaller than PNG?

No. The result depends on image content, dimensions and quality. Compare the byte counts shown after conversion.

Can I convert another format here?

This page specifically accepts PNG input. Use the compressor or resizer for supported JPG and WebP images.
